June 2012

Dear Parents:

The staff at Holy Family welcomes our new and returning families to the 2012-2013 school year.

Our philosophy states that we are in partnership with our parents and look forward to working with each of you in the educational process of your child.  This process ideally joins together the environments of home, church and school.  Our role as a school is to create a place where a child may experience Gospel values and academic learning as a compliment to the home.  Welcome to our family!

In order for our partnership to be successful, we need your participation.  You will need to complete 40 hours of service, purchase $4,000 of Scrip, participate in fundraising activities, attend Back to School Nights and most importantly, communicate with your child’s teacher.  Volunteer hours and Scrip purchases may be done throughout the summer.  For Scrip information or questions, please contact Leslie Bejar (leslie.bejar@hfsj.org or 978-1355 extension 101).  For volunteer opportunities or questions, please contact Jackie Albin (jackiealbin@hfsj.org or 978-1378).

Please familiarize yourself with the school’s website.  Communication between school and home is done via email.  Our bi-monthly electronic News & Notes is posted to the website along with information on school activities.  Please keep your contact information including email address and cell phone numbers current.

Your child’s class assignment will be mailed home.  The teachers and administration work hard to place each student in the appropriate class setting.  No changes will be made unless there is a serious academic reason that the administration has approved.  Please do not call or email requesting a change.  Class supplies may be purchased over the summer.  Watch for sales or shop at Office Depot.  We receive a percentage of all purchases.  To avoid the first day chaos, supplies may be dropped off in your child’s classroom on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 10 am to noon.   Please make sure supplies are in a bag clearly labeled with your child’s name.  Supplies may also be brought throughout the first week of school.  Please note that grades 4-8 must purchase paperback books for use in their Language Arts classes.  They are listed on the Class Supply List along with the appropriate ISBN number to be used when purchasing.

The Report of Health Examination form for Kindergarten and first grade students is due by August 1st.  Proof of Tdap booster for 6th grade students is also due by August 1st.  Your child cannot start school without the proper immunization records on file.  Examination forms and proof of Tdap may be mailed or dropped off in the school office – attention Connie Schneider.  Please do not return forms to the Parish Office.  A drop-off slot is located in the school office door adjacent to Room 9.  Your cooperation in returning forms promptly is greatly appreciated by the office staff.
All other forms can be placed in the drop box or maybe brought on the first day of school.  Please refer to the Checklist to ensure that you receive all important information and forms for a successful 2012/2013 school year.

Finally, there are many changes coming this next school year.  Please attend Back to School Nights to hear all about them. These changes include staff, grade reporting, curriculum and parent board group.

Sincerely,

Gail Harrell, Principal
