Holy Family School
Birthday Book Program

2012/2013 School Year

Dear Parents:

This letter is to introduce you to our Birthday Club Program here at Holy Family School.  Last year we had 225 new hard cover books donated to our library through this program.  This program is a fun way to build our library while recognizing a student’s special day in a personal and permanent way.

This program is completely voluntary.  Here is how you can participate:  The month before your child’s birthday, you will be able to download the Birthday Book Order form. If their birthday is in June or July, those forms will be available in April.  August and September birthdays will be available at the beginning of the school year.  The birthday book form will have a listing of topics from which to choose; for example, fantasy, fiction, early reader, mystery, biography, favorite authors or teacher’s choice.  You may wish to have your child participate in the selection, or you can do it as a birthday surprise.

Once you have made your selection, return the form to the school office along with your donation of $18.00.   This will cover the cost of the hard cover book, plus a special protective covering, and bar coding.  We can often get books from publishers at a school discount.  Therefore your donation can be expanded.  The library replaces the old, damaged and outdated books with new ones that capture the imaginations of today’s children and assist our teachers with their curriculum.  Of course, you are welcome to purchase a book yourself, but we would ask that you email Laurie Brant at terri.lanoie@hfsj.org for a list of books from which to choose.

A bookplate with your child’s name, birthday and the current school year will be placed on the inside cover.  The following month during a morning assembly, Mrs. Lanoie, the librarian or Mrs. Harrell will make a special presentation honoring your birthday student.  (The older students have the option of participating but not having the presentation at assembly.)  The book will be taken home and read by your family.  Then your child will give it to the library for public reading with our thanks.

We look forward to working with you and building our library to further enrich our children’s lives.

Sincerely,

Gail Harrell                                                          Terri Lanoie
